“The First Song” From Lollapalooza Chile

Check out this great fan-made video of Band of Horses absolutely rocking out a rendition of “The First Song” from Lollapalooza Chile the other day.

The guys sound absolutely great; this video makes me really hope there’s an announcement of some American tour dates coming up.

Of course, BoH has another South American gig today before wrapping up on the 7th in Sao Paulo.  If you have tickets to either of those shows, I think you’re in for a great time.

In the meantime, I’ll be on the lookout for more videos, reviews, pictures, and whatever else I can get find and share with you.  I hope your day is off to a great start!

Glyn Johns Producing New BoH Album?

So, I was doing my normal scouring of the Twitterverse this morning and happened upon this:

Now, if you’re scratching your head and wondering who Glyn Johns is, chances are you’ve actually been listening to albums he’s worked on for a long time.  He’s worked with some of the best bands of all time, to include Led Zeppelin, Bob Dylan, The Beatles, The Who, and The Rolling Stones (just to name a few).  The man’s place in the Rock N’ Roll Hall of Fame is well deserved.

I guess it’s an understatement, but the best way I can put it is that it’s pretty damn cool that (it looks like) he’s bringing his production talents to the new Band of Horses  record.

As always, I’ll be on the lookout for more news about the new album.  I hope you’re all doing great out there!

Pictures Speak A Thousand Words

Good morning, everybody!  I hope your weekend was a safe and happy one!

So, it looks like BoH’s gig in Chile went off in spectacular fashion, as is evidenced by the great pictures the band posted on their Facebook yesterday.  Beyond those, I was able to track down this great set of pictures from musica.terra.cl for your viewing pleasure.

I hope you’re all doing great, and I will be on the lookout for more pics (not to mention reviews) of the show to keep you updated on!

It’s Been A While…

…but I certainly haven’t forgotten about the Ode or all my friends.

I am sitting here tonight watching TV with Jodi Ann and being joyous for BoH about their inaugural trip to South America, and thought it worth a post to mark the occasion.

In the next several days, the guys will play two shows (rocking South American audiences who have been clamoring for a gig for a long time) and have the chance to take in some hyper-legit sites, experiences, and (I’m sure) hospitality for the first time ever in the southern hemisphere.  Not too shabby, eh?

As always, I’ll be on the lookout for news, reviews, tweets, Facebook posts, emails, and smoke signals about the upcoming shows.  I can’t help but wonder if any of my fellow Ode to Boh’ers (yes, that’s a real title) are chilling in Brazil or Chile waiting for the shows.  If so, it’d be badass to hear from you.

As always, I am truly, truly hoping you are all happy, healthy, and safe.   Have a good weekend, y’all!

A Painting of a Painting on Fire Gets Official Release Date!

Check it out!  Ryan’s album, “A Painting of a Painting on Fire” just got its official release date of May 22nd!  Also, Ryan’s been kind enough to throw all of us a free download of his tune “Any Way, Shape, or Deformity,” which you can get by clicking here.

Here’s (what I think is) the press release for the album:

What started off as over 100 songs and ideas was eventually whittled down to an 11-song album that showcases Ryan’s talent as both a musician and songwriter for pop-oriented progressive rock. Recorded at Redstar Studios in Silver Lake CA with Grammy award-winning producer Chris Testa, Ryan plays every instrument on this cohesive album that seamlessly flows from elaborate pop rockers to complex but melodic ballads.

With an opportunity to play every note on the record and having access to the studios large collection of instruments, Ryan was able to explore every idea. “I’ve had multiple parts for different instruments brewing in my head for quite some time, and because the studio had so many toys, I started messing with vibes and strange synths to get them out. To just walk over to any instrument and start kind of painting the track with it was extremely fun and therapeutic.

There were over 120 different instrument tracks on some of the tunes” laughs Ryan. What gives A PAINTING OF A PAINTING ON FIRE its character is how Ryan fearlessly explores musical territories / influences – country, art-rock, pop, classical and prog – often in the course of one song. The end result is an accessible and colorful listen for fans. Stay tuned for more news and music!

Having heard the tunes he’s posted on his Soundcloud account, I am really, really looking forward to this album!

I hope you’re all having a great day out there!

Band of Horses “On My Way Back Home” film

Hey friends! I know not much has been going on yet this new year, but while foraging the intrawebs for something new, I came across this absolutely beautiful video! How I’ve missed this one over the past few months, I seriously have no clue, and I’m so sorry i did! THIS IS A GEM!!!

You are all in for a treat! I sat and watched this and it immediately brought to mind “The Song Remains the Same”. This is an absolutely BEAUTIFUL video.

The description reads….
“In 2010 Band Of Horses played an intimate show at the Henry Miller Library in Big Sur California. This film is a snapshot of that performance and the events surrounding it.”

Now.. Is it too much to ask for a DVD and Bluray? :)

This absolutely has made my day and I hope it makes yours too! Have a wonderful evening, and Happy Valentines Day!

The Valley Wind Contest Winner Announced!!!

Congratulations David Franzén!

After numerous responses on Facebook and emails, I sat and wondered how on Earth do you actually just “pick” a winner? Everyone has their own reason for liking a certain song, or labeling it their favorite. What caught me by surprise was not only the wonderful responses from awesome fans, but the conclusion that, the majority of you love the song “1000 Blackbirds”.

So, I decided to just randomly pick a winner!

Our winner, David Franzén, from Sydney, Australia writes:

“My favourite song from “The Valley Wind” has got to be “1000 Black Birds”. Listening to this track while riding the night-train out from the CBD of Sydney, with full view of the majestic skyline is an amazing experience every single time. The wonderful fingerpicking and the unique harmonies of this song always makes me think about the ones I love; my family, my friends and my home. And even though they are half the world away, for a few minutes they seem to be much closer.”

Along with David, many of you concurred, “1000 Blackbirds” was the favorite song of choice.

Stephanie Huber said, “1000 Black Birds” because of its ethereal and spooky and old-timey sound.”
Tyler Smith says that hearing “1000 Black Birds” live made him like it even more!
Alana Jones is taken aback at how “exquisite” “1000 Black Birds” is.

Then there were the few, like myself, who love “Nightbird”.

My friends, I think we could seriously go on and on about this subject and never grow tired!

I want to thank each and every single one of you for participating, and letting us know what you’re favorites are and why. It’s fans like you who make the band go on!!

I would also like to once again thank the most awesome Mister Tyler Ramsey, for signing the CD that will be going to a new home (down under) to be proudly displayed, and greatly appreciated.

Congratulations David! I will be in touch with you soon!

We hope to have more contests soon! Keep your eyes peeled, and ears open!

I hope you’re having a great week out there, and a rockin’ start to 2012!
