Friday Wrap-Up (With A Note From Dave)

Hey everybody.  It’s been a hectic couple of days around the odetoboh offices (read: my living room) here in Indiana.  The computer I’d been using to gather all the info I could about Band of Horses suddenly went on the fritz yesterday, leaving me and odetoboh kinda up the creek.  I managed to grab a new computer before too much time went by, but am kind of still putting the pieces back together as far as getting my hands on Band of Horses news.  So if I lag a couple of times over the next few days or weeks, don’t be mad, I’m just working on getting caught up.

That said, it’s been a pretty busy day for the band.  They’re playing a show in Detroit right now (which my buddy panjok2 is at–details to follow), and just announced not one but two chances to hear them on the radio over the weekend!

First up, the guys will be on Sirius radio tomorrow at 2 PM EST.  This is no run-of-the-mill spot, however.  Do you remember when Ben absolutely knocked “Hunger Strike” out of the park?  Now’s your chance to re-live it (or experience it for the first time), because Sirius will be broadcasting the full Pearl Jam show from Madison Square Garden back in May.  This is definitely not one to be missed!  I don’t think anyone has ever done Chris Cornell’s part so well!  Click here for more details on that one.

Secondly, the guys will be guest hosting on KPRI’s show “My Turn” on Sunday from 6 PM to 7 PM PST.  Basically what that means is that they’re going to play whatever they want for a full hour.  I can tell you from experience that the dudes definitely have some serious–and eclectic–tastes in music, so you’ll definitely want to check that out.

Beyond that, I promise I’ll have some more posts this weekend (including an interview with Creighton and a hometown connection).   In the meantime, I really hope everyone is having a great Friday evening, and appreciate you bearing with me while I get everything put back together!

Ryan & Ben Rock WXRT

The good folks from WXRT in Chicago were nice enough to post yesterday’s appearance and performance featuring Ben and Ryan!

This is a really cool performance.  I might be off a little bit here, but I can’t remember having ever heard the guys pull out “Cigarettes, Wedding Bands” on the radio, so that makes this particular performance somewhat unique.

And, as always, the guys just kick ass at every turn.  Their acoustic rendition of “Older” is just incredible.   Also of note here is their recounting of recording in Alabama, and a lot of the history that goes along with recording at a place as storied as Fame Studios.

Anyway, enough of me, enjoy the performance!

Check Out BoH Live Online Today!

(special thanks to kyle over at wfpk for the heads up on this!)

Before Band of Horses goes on-stage for their concert tonight in Louisville, they are going to be performing a three-song set over at WFPK in Louisville today at about 1:30 PM EST.

Tune in and check out what I’m sure is going to be an awesome performance!  Hope you’re having such a great day out there!

Full KCRW Performance!

Howdy everyone!

Band of Horses performed on KCRW‘s show “Morning Becomes Eclectic” a little earlier today, and in case you missed it, KCRW has been nice enough to spread the love with the cool little music player you will find below.

I must tell you, I’ve listened to a LOT of the guys’ live stuff, and aside from seeing them in person, this is by far my favorite performance ever.  The guys break out new acoustic versions of both new and old songs, and Ben gets to say “good afternoon.”  :P  You can tell the guys are fresh from a well-deserved break, because the energy is tangible even though you’ll be listening online.

I really hope you enjoy this as much as I did.  I listened to it straight through while working on the last post and am probably going to listen again before the night is over.

Man, these guys rock!

Band of Horses Live At The Wireless

Before I get to this post, I really want to give a special shout-out to entulista, who has become the unofficial correspondent for odetoboh in Australia and New Zealand.  Entulista’s managed to find a ton of stuff for odetoboh so far, and it really is greatly appreciated!

Today, entulista brings us a mindbendingly cool Band of Horses performance from 2008 available for free (and legal) download.  As a bonus, there’s a pretty cool interview from earlier this year that deals with the recording process of Infinite Arms.  I won’t spoil the interview for you, but trust me when I say the performance and the interview are well worth your time!  You can go to this page to download it, free of charge and obligation (but stick around to check out the awesome pictures that were taken)!

…But that’s not it.  Fans around the world are going to get a chance to listen online to Band of Horses’ recent performance at Melbourne’s Palace Theatre.  It is going to air online here on Sunday, August 29th, at 5 PM.  Now, please note that the time for the show is local to Canberra, Australia.  If you happen to live in the United States and need to figure out how late you will have to stay up on Saturday night to check out the show (and, consequently, how big of a fan you really are haha), click here so you can check out the current time in Canberra and do the math.  Either way, I am sure it will be well worth staying up late to hear!

I really hope you’re having an awesome day out there!!!

Gorgeous Performance of "For Annabelle"

Hi there everyone, check out this gorgeous rendition of my favorite song from Infinite Arms.
As I’m sure you know, the band was recently in Australia.  While they were there, they stopped by Nova FM to perform a few songs, and the good folks at Nova recently posted this video of Ben and Tyler doing a somber and beautiful performance of “For Annabelle.”
I hope you enjoy this video as much as I did.  This is an absolutely beautiful song, and is performed flawlessly in the video.
That said, enough of me, here it is.  Hope you’re having an awesome day!
Edit:  That video was definitely causing weirdness on the site, so I just linked to it above.  Hope you enjoy it!

Performances From NPR Visit In Minnesota

Remember the Twtitpic from a little while ago that said simply “NPR Studios Minneapolis?”  Well, now we get to hear what was going on while the guys were there!

Minnesota Public Radio just released audio from Band of Horses’ performance, and man it is pretty.  Check out the player below to hear chill-inspiring performances of “Older” and “Laredo.”

Hope y’all are having such a wonderful day out there!

'Marry Song' From Lightning 100

Lightning 100, an independent radio station out of Nashville, recently released this gorgeous video of Ben and Tyler performing “Marry Song.”

While I really like the original version of this song, this version literally gave me chills.  I hope it does the same for you, and that you’re having a wonderful day out there!

State Theatre Show Reviewed!

It took a couple of days for me to track down, but I finally managed to find a really nice review of Band of Horses’ recent show in Minneapolis this past Saturday!

Says Quintessentially Quirky author Tess, “With band members switching roles there can be up to four guitars, a gifted keyboardist, a drummer who has more than just the beat, and beautiful harmonies, its no wonder why Band of Horses has the word band in its moniker. For as beautiful as Ben Bridwell’s cracking vocals are, his and his band’s musical talent is what makes Band of Horses’ show one of better concerts I’ve been to this year.”

She continues, “they seemed like they were having just as much fun as we were, rocking out together, Bridwell jumping all around the stage.”

Does anyone else notice a pattern here?  :)

She really wrote a very nice review (which could also serve as a primer, of sorts, for those of you who may be uninitiated to the band), which you should read here!

Really hope you’re having a wonderful evening out there.

P.S.  I never was able to find a review from the Eagles Club show–if anyone knows of one and would be so kind as to share a link, we’d all appreciate it!  Thanks in advance!
