Tyler Ramsey Double Dose!

Tyler recently did interviews with savannahnow.com and with fsunews.com, in which he spoke about, well, all kinds of things!  It's amazing how much can be covered in the span of just a few hundred words!  You'll find some of the more interesting tidbits below, along with links to both interviews (placed, for your convenience, right at the bottom of this post).  I highly recommend you read them both in their entirety!

First up, from the savannahnow.com interview:

On how he joined BoH:

Quote

“I ended up hanging out with them [Band of Horses] at a bar and talking about music,” Ramsey said. “When Ben asked me if I wanted to open up a tour, I was blown away and super excited to do that. Ten minutes later, we were talking about me being in the band. It was a really, really good day.”

On when he started playing:

Quote

“I started playing music when I was really young,” Ramsey said. “We were living outside Chicago when my parents got a piano. I began taking jazz piano lessons at 10.”

And from the fsunews.com interview:

On playing twice a night, both as Band of Horses' opener and as their guitarist:

Quote

I loved it, actually. Being on tour most of the time is waiting around to play music for people so getting to do that twice in a night involved less pacing around backstage and more of actually doing what you're there to do [laughs]. It was cool to get to know the crowd before we came out as a band and I think it helped take away some of the nerves, especially being the new guy in the band. By the time I got up there with the band, it felt like, "Oh, I know this crowd already" [laughs].

When asked if he's planning on doing any new solo work:

Quote

I'm actually driving around right now listening to mixes for my new record that I'm putting out in a few months. We're mixing everything-it's all done being recorded-and I think it'll be mastered [soon] and after that, we have to come out with album art and the title and all the stuff [laughs].

Man, I am looking forward to hearing his new record.  "A Long Dream…," if you haven't heard it, is an absolutely gorgeous record, so I am sure his new material will definitely impress!

At any rate, I really hope you're all having a great day out there.  Here's the links to the interviews:

Chronicle Interview With Tyler–Hints At New Material!

I just found this great interview with Tyler at http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/, in which Tyler talks about the pitfalls of not having a cell phone signal, and the upcoming tour.

I've snagged a snippet or two for your reading enjoyment, but do make sure and check out the whole thing by clicking here.  Tyler talks about finding out (or not finding out) about the Grammy nomination, the upcoming tour, and what I am fairly sure is a new solo record!

This is the big one though:  “We’ve been playing a good mix of all the music so it is going to be a little bit of everything,” says Tyler of the band’s gig at the O2 Academy in Newcastle on Wednesday.

“We will have some new stuff too – a blend of everything. The festivals were fantastic, just knowing we were going to be a part of that was exciting enough and then we had a great response and had a blast. It was fun."

So, it looks like the folks going to the band's Newcastle gig are (potentially) in for a really special treat in the form of new songs!  I wish I had my passport and a few extra thousand dollars to check this gig out, because something tells me it's going to be extra-awesome!

If you're going to that show, I really hope you share your thoughts (and whether or not any new material is debuted) with us here.  And to everyone, I hope you're all having a great day!

'A Long Dream' Re-Released

Today Fat Possum Records re-released Tyler Ramsey's gorgeous album 'A Long Dream About Swimming Across The Sea.'  I've heard this album and I can tell you that it really is an amazing listen.  And I'm not alone in that assessment:

“Ramsey’s intricate playing suits his lovelorn voice and is a treat for any fans of My Morning Jacket or Wilco.”
- Filter

“Heartwarming, delicate and comforting, Tyler Ramsey's music showcases a thoughtful approach to instrumentalism and lyricism.”
- NPR

Both of those reviews are really on point, but I think it worth adding that Tyler's guitar work is absolutely incredible in the emotion it conveys, and that the album is worth listening to on that alone, nevermind the stunning lyricism and vocal delivery.

You can get the album in CD format for $12 or as a digital download for $8.99 from Fat Possum right now.  It is well worth every cent!

Hope you're all doing great out there!

Tyler Playing Out Tomorrow Night!

I’m not sure how I missed this one, but Tyler Ramsey is going to be in Decatur, GA tomorrow night at Eddie’s Attic.  He will be playing alongside Patrick McKinney (AKA Langtry).

The music of both Tyler and Langtry is absolutely breathtaking, so it will be well worth the price of admission (which starts at just $15) to go and enjoy a great night of music.  So, I know this is late notice, but if you’re even close to the Decatur area tomorrow night, do yourself a favor and go and check these guys out!

Hope you’re having a wonderful evening out there!
