Gorgeous Performance of "Older" From Reading

I have to admit, as much as I love Band of Horses albums, I really am a sucker for their acoustic performances, not to mention when the guys break out into an “alternate” version of any of their songs.  So when nme.com posted this video of Ryan, Tyler, and Ben doing an even-mellower version of “Older,” I watched straight through twice in a row.

The video finds the guys in good voice and what seems like high spirits.  From what I gather, it was filmed for nme.com over in the U.K. at some point just before or just after the guys’ appearance at the Reading Festival.

Along those lines, I also thought it a pretty cool move for the band to give the security guys at Reading a mid-show shout-out.  In the same nme.com article with the video, they mention about how Ben showed some love for security.  ”These security guys are awesome,” he said. “They’re letting people stand on each other’s shoulders. Everybody’s so nice! Let’s have a hand for these guys, yeah?”

It’s cool to see the band spreading good vibes and playing awesome music worldwide!

Hope you’re having a great day out there, and that you enjoy the video!

Band of Horses Announce 2011 European Tour

Band of Horses announced just a little earlier today that they will be doing a pretty extensive tour of Europe starting in late January of 2011!  The tour will kick off after some well-deserved time off on January 26th and extends out right through the end of February.

For more information, and for ticketing information, go to Band of Horses’ events page online.  For folks in Europe, this is going to be a chance to start the new year with a great band who’s been making excellent music, so don’t miss out!

Hope you’re having an awesome day out there!

Lowlands Re-Visited (For Good Reason)

You might remember the other day when vpro.nl posted Band of Horses’ entire performance from Lowlands.  Well, I thought it would be cool to come back and kind of re-visit that particular performance, since someone has been nice enough to put a bunch of clips from that show up on YouTube.

This particular clip is one of my favorite BoH songs.  But the reason I’m posting it here is it shows a particularly cool moment between the band and a fan.  Anyway, check it out, you’ll get my drift.

Hope you’re having an awesome day out there!

BoH Gets High Marks At Leeds Festival

In what can only be described as a thoroughly positive review, spinner.com gave Band of Horses very high praise indeed for their gig earlier today at the Leeds Festival.

Says reviewer Stephen Dowling:

It could almost be 1998 – Band of Horses’ psychedelic sweep of sound during their NME/Radio 1 Stage set on Saturday sounds at times like the lysergic symphonies of Mercury Rev at their most approachable. But no — this is 2010, the year band of Horses have gone from cult concern to one of the year’s most deserving successes.

Beyond that, he says the band is indeed “one of Leeds’ understated gems.”

Well, hell yeah, ha?!  The guys are really dominating (no surprise).   Next up is the Reading Festival tomorrow, and I don’t think the reviews that come from that show will be any different!

I’ll be on the lookout for more reviews from overseas, but in the meantime you can check out the full review here.

Rock en Seine Wrap-Up

Alright, so there’s some cool info to pass along about Band of Horses’ recent gig at Rock en Seine in France.

First, the pics:  the band put up some awesome pics of the gig on their Facebook page, which you should definitely take a look at (and thanks to “Miss” Mari-Nanci for the heads-up on those)!  There’s another pretty nice set of pics on Flickr that you can check out too!

And here’s the interview Ben did with the French contingent of Virgin Radio.  My apologies to you non-French speakers out there :)  I think you’ll enjoy it nonetheless, even if you just spend the time wondering, as I did, why, in any language, they manage to find interpreters who sound like absolutely no one on the planet haha.

Hope you’re having a great day out there!

Check Out The New Commenting System

Hey there, everybody!

I wanted to take a couple of minutes and make a quick announcement about the new commenting system that is up and running on odetoboh.net.  There’s quite a few new features that will make it easier for you to share your thoughts about the stories on odetoboh.  But, first, a word as to the “why” behind this change.

Up until now, the forum system has been in place for folks to comment about stories and share their own views.  But, over time, it’s become more and more apparent that the forums were really acting as a glorified “comment” system, where folks would comment on the stories I was posting on the front page, but not add a ton of their own threads.  That’s all good by me, but, to be honest, the amount of time and effort it takes to keep the forums running in anything resembling a stable manner didn’t seem to justify having them there if I was going to be the only one posting threads.

So, that being the case, I went and looked for the coolest, most user-friendly commenting system I could find, and I think you’ll really enjoy the changes that’ve been made.

Up until now, you’ve had to register with odetoboh.net if you wanted to comment on any of the posts.  The new system eliminates that entirely.  You can now sign in to comment with login information from any one of a number of websites where most of you (probably) already have an account, like Facebook and Twitter.  If you don’t feel like doing that, you can always post as a guest, or if you feel like remaining completely anonymous, you can just “like” a post (you can “dislike” it too, but, come on, y’all).

As for the forums, I didn’t want to destroy everything everyone has already contributed to the various posts, so they are going to be kept on the site (basically for archival purposes) here.

I did this with the hopes that this would be a positive change for everyone who comes on the site and that it would encourage more discussion between fans of an amazing band.  As always, I welcome any and all feedback you have.  I really appreciate all the support you’ve shown the site since it started–I can honestly say Band of Horses has the coolest fans in the world!

Hope you’re having a great weekend, y’all–I’ll be looking forward to hearing from you!

Full Band of Horses Lowlands Performance!

Hi everybody, I thought you would really enjoy this a lot.

Dutch site vpro.nl has uploaded (what I am pretty sure is) the full Band of Horses performance from earlier this month at the Lowlands Festival in the Netherlands.

This is a gorgeous performance clocking in at just under an hour.  You can tell the band is really enjoying themselves, and while it definitely doesn’t take the place of actually getting to see them live, it does make for a nice distraction while the guys are overseas.

Anyway, if you needed any more reason to go and check the guys out, here it is.  Before I bid you adieu, let me just say I hope you’re having a wonderful day out there.  Alrighty then, here’s the link…enjoy the show!

Live At The Wireless Update

Hey everyone, just a quick update on the last post.

At some point between when I made that post yesterday and now, the Triple J post I was linking to has changed.  Basically, the live performance that was available for download has been replaced by an equally cool live set that is available for streaming but not available for download.

So, I’m going to go out on a limb here.

I was able to download the live set from Triple J yesterday, and am kind of assuming that even though it’s been removed from the site, it’s cool to share that file.  So, for the time being, I’m going to make it available for you to download right from this site.  You can do so by clicking here.

Also, as kind of a bonus, I managed to grab the embed code so you can stream the highlight package from their 2010 Melbourne show right here.  It’s beautifully recorded and an amazing performance, so take a few moments and check it out.

See? I told you it’d be great!

I really hope you’re all having an amazing day out there, and will be back later on with another post!

Band of Horses Live At The Wireless

Before I get to this post, I really want to give a special shout-out to entulista, who has become the unofficial correspondent for odetoboh in Australia and New Zealand.  Entulista’s managed to find a ton of stuff for odetoboh so far, and it really is greatly appreciated!

Today, entulista brings us a mindbendingly cool Band of Horses performance from 2008 available for free (and legal) download.  As a bonus, there’s a pretty cool interview from earlier this year that deals with the recording process of Infinite Arms.  I won’t spoil the interview for you, but trust me when I say the performance and the interview are well worth your time!  You can go to this page to download it, free of charge and obligation (but stick around to check out the awesome pictures that were taken)!

…But that’s not it.  Fans around the world are going to get a chance to listen online to Band of Horses’ recent performance at Melbourne’s Palace Theatre.  It is going to air online here on Sunday, August 29th, at 5 PM.  Now, please note that the time for the show is local to Canberra, Australia.  If you happen to live in the United States and need to figure out how late you will have to stay up on Saturday night to check out the show (and, consequently, how big of a fan you really are haha), click here so you can check out the current time in Canberra and do the math.  Either way, I am sure it will be well worth staying up late to hear!

I really hope you’re having an awesome day out there!!!

Gorgeous Performance of "For Annabelle"

Hi there everyone, check out this gorgeous rendition of my favorite song from Infinite Arms.
As I’m sure you know, the band was recently in Australia.  While they were there, they stopped by Nova FM to perform a few songs, and the good folks at Nova recently posted this video of Ben and Tyler doing a somber and beautiful performance of “For Annabelle.”
I hope you enjoy this video as much as I did.  This is an absolutely beautiful song, and is performed flawlessly in the video.
That said, enough of me, here it is.  Hope you’re having an awesome day!
Edit:  That video was definitely causing weirdness on the site, so I just linked to it above.  Hope you enjoy it!
