This is definitely one of the more unique interviews I have read with Ben. Before I hook you up with an excerpt or two from the interview, let me explain why. Steve Alexander, senior editor for the NBA and PGA Tour for Rotoworld.com and a contributor to NBCSports.com, has a series on Rotoworld called Backstage Pass, where he hopes to, as he puts it, “introduce some hoops fans to musicians, music folks to fantasy hoops, and to ask some questions other than what you see in most music magazines.”
Recently, he got the chance to chat with Ben about fantasy hoops, sports, music, and the like. I have yanked a couple snippets from that interview that you can check out below, but you should definitely check the whole thing out by clicking here. It is a cool interview that definitely lives up to Steve’s desire to ask questions other than what you find in the majority of music mags. Enjoy!
Steve Alexander: . What are your favorite sports and teams to root for?
Ben Bridwell: I love college sports, but football especially. My loyalty is pledged to the University of Georgia, even in the darkest of days. Next favorite is Major League Baseball (Mariners, Twins, then Braves). If I have time I’ll watch pretty much anything sports related: soccer, golf, fights, etc… Still trying to figure out Cricket and Rugby, however.
SA Your family has been your biggest supporter and has been at every show I’ve seen you play. Did you guys go to any major sporting events when you were a kid, and do you have a highlight memory from that time as far as seeing something cool happen with your dad?
BB Coolest thing was my dad being the coach of a lot of teams I was on and mom being at every game. Living in Columbia, SC (screen door to Hell), we didn’t go to any “cool” sporting events unless they were our own. Got to see some cool concerts though. First was Temptations w/ Four Tops, O’Jays, and Levert!
SA Last one…if you could have been a professional athlete, what sport/position would you have picked to play?
BB Pro Surfer would be fantastic! Travel to some of the most beautiful places on earth and connect solo with nature? I’d still choose music over anything though. If it is a “job” it’s the best job ever!
There you have it! Like I said, definitely a different approach as far as interviews are concerned, but something that I, for one, wouldn’t mind one bit seeing more of
Hope you all are having such a wonderful day out there!
