Wanna Skate With Creighton?

Alright, here is a very serious once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

Band of Horses has just announced a contest where a lucky winner has the chance to get flown to L.A. for a skate session with Creighton Barrett.  But it doesn’t end there.   Here’s what else is up for grabs in this:

-Tickets to see BOH at The Greek Theater
-A trip to Girl Skateboard’s private skate park to skate with Creighton Barrett of BOH
-A Band of Horses Girl Skate Deck
-A pair of Band of Horses Custom Lakai Shoes

Here’s what you need to do:  Make a video of your sickest skateboarding possible, set it all to one of the songs from “Infinite Arms,” pay any occurring medical expenses, and hope for the best.  The members of the band will personally be judging the entries, so bring your A game.

Go to Band of Horses’ Facebook page now to get the ball rolling (also check out the freakin hysterical rollout video for the contest), and good luck!

Hope you’re having a great day out there…

…Now it’s time for me to dust off the old Nash board…

Performances From NPR Visit In Minnesota

Remember the Twtitpic from a little while ago that said simply “NPR Studios Minneapolis?”  Well, now we get to hear what was going on while the guys were there!

Minnesota Public Radio just released audio from Band of Horses’ performance, and man it is pretty.  Check out the player below to hear chill-inspiring performances of “Older” and “Laredo.”

Hope y’all are having such a wonderful day out there!

BoH Reviewed "On The Bright Side"

I totally get the fact that Band of Horses only got one paragraph in perthnow.com.au’s review of the inaugural On The Bright Side festival.  I mean, there were no less than eight bands that performed, so the poor reviewer probably has carpal tunnel from trying to get through all of them, but the one paragraph written about Band of Horses show was nonetheless another reminder of how well the band is doing out on the road.

Says reviewer Jay Hanna, “Having recently released one of the best albums of the year in Infinite Arms, Band of Horses were a major drawcard for many. Having recently toured through the US with Pearl Jam, the band were on top of their game. The five-piece achieved a full rich sound that perfectly carried songs such as Factory and Compliments. In fact it was almost hard to believe we were at a festival the sound was so sublime. Many could do little more than stand mesmerised.”

That review made me think of something.  One of the unsung heroes of any successful touring act is the front-of-house engineer (sometimes referred to as “the sound guy”).  Next time you’re at a show, take a look around–it’s usually the guy or girl about halfway back standing behind a mixing console.  Throw him or her some love if you’re in shouting range, because if he or she doesn’t do the job well, it doesn’t matter how well the band plays–they’ll sound horrible.  Speaking from my experience at the Nashville show and from reading the OTBS review, Band of Horses have a badass front of house engineer.  Thought that worth mentioning here :)

Anyway, hope you’re having a great day out there and that you get to see BoH during this tour–they’ve really emerged as a force to be reckoned with onstage!

Band of Horses Tix For Powerstation GONE

Band of Horses’ only gig in New Zealand, which is coming up on August 3rd at the Powerstation in Auckland, is now totally sold out of tickets.

I’m sure this isn’t the last show that is going to run out of tickets, so if the guys are coming anywhere near where you’re living, get your tickets quick!

Hope you’re having a wonderful day out there!

I'm Sure I'm Not The 1st To Notice, But…

…check out this picture from Band of Horses’ Twitpics.  It looks like Ben’s storied, list-making beard has vanished, leaving a well-kempt moustache behind.

Perhaps he read my post from the other day (see link above) and took pity on me and my goatee :)   Either way, beardless Ben is back and here to stay (I love alliteration).

Hope you’re having a great day out there!

Adelaide Gig Reviewed!

Band of Horses have shown no signs of jet-lag in their travels halfway around the world to Australia.  At least that’s what ravereview.com.au reviewer Jenna Hawkins seems to think!

In her review of their recent show at The Gov in Adelaide, she says “Band of Horses proved they know how to work a room and have the audience eating out of the palms of their hands. Opening with Factory, the first track off latest record Infinite Arms, the crowd was instantly transported to the world of the band’s beautiful lyrics, that followed suit with Cease To Begin’s Ode To LRC.”

You can check out the rest of her review here!  One thing not mentioned in the review, that I thought worth a few lines here:  it speaks volumes to the talent of this band that they can play a gig so far away and still maintain the same energy they deliver to us here in the States.  What I mean is this:  the time difference alone means that even though they played the gig at 8 PM Adelaide time, it was around 6 AM in their home state of South Carolina when they kicked things off.  It can’t be the easiest thing in the world to pull of a show like that when your brain is telling you that you shouldn’t even be awake yet!  That they did so and still managed to knock it out of the park is undoubtedly a credit to their talent!

At any rate, hope you’re having a wonderful day out there!

MySpace Music Selects Infinite Arms As One Of Year's Best!

MySpace Music, a group that starts compiling their year-end “best of” lists during the third week of January, has selected Infinite Arms as one of the best of 2010!  In their article about the album, they say “Band Of Horses’ first release with a solid lineup (and on a major) sees them fully embracing their identity as the indie-rock version of The Band—and from sparkling ballads like ‘Laredo’ to harmony-rich odes like ‘Older,’ they find themselves living up to such a comparison.”

As of right now, none of the albums MySpace Music has selected are ranked.  They save that particular distinction for the end of the year, but I would be willing to bet that when the time comes, Infinite Arms is going to be placed very highly, indeed!

I hope you’re all having such a great day out there, and that you had a happy and safe weekend!

'Marry Song' From Lightning 100

Lightning 100, an independent radio station out of Nashville, recently released this gorgeous video of Ben and Tyler performing “Marry Song.”

While I really like the original version of this song, this version literally gave me chills.  I hope it does the same for you, and that you’re having a wonderful day out there!

BoH Represents On 'Best Beard' List

Band of Horses have found themselves on several top 10 lists:  they’ve had the top ten record in the U.S. with Infinite Arms, Cease To Begin was on at least a couple top ten lists of 2007, and I know without a doubt that they are in many fans’ personal top ten lists of favorite bands.

Now they can add another notch to their proverbial belt with yet another appearance on a top ten list, albeit a slightly more novel one:  best beards.

Recently, discosalt.com compiled a list of the top ten best beards in indie rock, and not one but two members of Band of Horses appeared on that list.  Tyler Ramsey ranked number two (bested only by Alex Ebert of Edward Sharpe And The Magnetic Zeros), and Ben Bridwell came in at position number six.

Now, maybe I’m a little more enamored with the idea of making an appearance on a “best beard” list than the typical music fan, but understand that I have tried more than once in my adult life to grow a proper beard, only to learn that, by some twist of genetic fate, the hair on my neck doesn’t connect to the hair on my upper lip.  As a result, I am left sporting a comparably weak goatee…

So, from me to the guys, congratulations on your man-manes making the list.

And to everyone out there, hope you’re all having a wonderful day!

Infinite Arms Makes HUGE Jump On Billboard

In the “good news” category this week for Band of Horses fans, Infinite Arms has jumped no less than 58 positions on the Billboard albums chart to #70 for this week!

I am hoping this momentum continues for the band.  I know the guys have worked really hard not only on the album, but the absolutely relentless touring schedule as well.

As always, I’ll keep an eye on what’s going on with the album, and will be hoping I get to make another post saying the album has jumped again next week!

In the meantime, I really hope you’re all having such a great day out there!
