I managed to find not just one but two great reviews of Band of Horses’ show from Wulfrun Hall yesterday evening!
The first comes from rocketfalls.com in which reviewer Matt Elton states “the set Band of Horses played was a real surprise. The new material didn’t dominate the set, and it all blended in perfectly with their more indie-rock numbers. If you were put off by the direction the band took with Infinite Arms, don’t let it put you off seeing them live – you’ll come out in love with the new songs, and even more so with the rest.” Do yourself a favor and read the whole thing here. It’s written really well, and don’t forget to check out James’ comments afterward
The other review I found comes from The Hearing Aid, which states “Something else they’ve clearly got a passion for is guitars. For much of the show there were four of ‘em up there cranking away while a couple of guitar techs beavered away [in] the back keeping another half a dozen or so in good working order. Designed to add texture to the music (rather than blow your ears off) it created a warm, rich palette of sound…against which Ben Bridwell was able to deliver his gentle songs of love, loss and salt lakes.” For The Hearing Aid’s, well, colorful account of the show, click here.
Both reviews confirm that the band has really matured onstage. It seems that the guys are, with each show, taking steps forward in the scale of their shows, but without alienating themselves from the audience. I mean, for real, how many bands take friggin requests while on stage?!?!
If you are reading this and are on the fence about seeing them live, let me tell you that it is a spectacle to behold. I am sure the reviews above (and all the future reviews, too, I’m sure) will attest to that!
Really hope you’re all having such a great day out there!
