Cee-Lo Green Covers "No One's Gonna Love You"

Cee-Lo Green, one half of the amazing group Gnarls Barkley, has covered Band of Horses’ epic song “No One’s Gonna Love You” as part of his upcoming solo project.  This news was announced just hours ago via Zane Lowe’s Hottest Records blog.

Now, for those of us outside Europe, we can’t listen to the audio just yet, but be sure I will be on the lookout for it and will keep you updated.  That said, if anyone here has a link that will work outside the U.K. please let us know!  We’ll be forever indebted.  In the meantime, I will stay busy trying to track it down to share with everyone–this was just such cool news I couldn’t help but post!

I really hope you’re all having a great day out there!

7:08 PM EST – EDIT: I found it!  Click here, then, when the page loads, click “Listen Now” and go to the 30 minute mark.  It’s friggin amazing!  Holy crap!  Please listen to the entire interview with Cee-Lo and his words for Band of Horses.

NPR Listeners Vote Infinite Arms Into Top 20

NPR listeners were recently asked to vote on their favorite albums of 2010 (so far), and wouldn’t you know, Infinite Arms was voted into the top 20 (number 16, to be exact)!  I think it speaks a lot to the album that it’s been voted to such a high position during a year that has been particularly strong as far as new music is concerned!

You can go and check out the full list here, if you’d like.

Once again, congratulations to the band on an excellent album (not to mention a knock-out tour)!  I have a feeling in another six months we’ll be seeing Infinite Arms on some more “best of” lists.

I really hope you’re having a great day out there!

Gorgeous Performance of Detlef Schrempf!

It’s been quite a slow news day today, but I thought I would share with you a video I just found.  This one is from back in April, when Band of Horses were in Germany, playing in a church not terribly unlike the one they would play in later on at SXSW.  What stuck out to me in this video, though, is Ryan playing through the pipe organ inside the church.  It lends an extra beauty to what is already an amazing performance.  I really hope you enjoy this video, and are all having such a wonderful day out there!

Creighton Sits Down With Huck

Creighton Barrett recently sat down with Huck Magazine to talk about the making of Infinite Arms, what he does in his off-time, and his love for skateboarding.

I have pulled some of my favorite pieces from the interview for your reading enjoyment below, but when you are done, be sure and read the whole thing by clicking here.

What does skateboarding mean to you?
I’ve skated my entire life. I grew up in the ’80s you know? I listened to The Cure and The Smiths but my other influence was skateboarding. I learnt all about punk rock and fucking metal and thrash and all that stuff through skateboarding. Into the ’1990s, we had hip hop and shit so skateboarding is pretty much one of my, if not my main, influence.

Who are your favourite skaters?
First and foremost Gonz. It’s always been Mark Gonzales, man, I just love him to fucking death. Uh, [Jason] Dill is another favourite skater of mine. There are just so fucking many! The Blueprint dudes, I’ve been watching them for forever, you know. Jensen and all those cats blow my mind.

What do you do when you’re not making music?
I surf a lot. I’ve got my girl and my dog at home. I’m trying to start a skate company but we’re just at the t-shirt level right now. It’s called Old Money. We kind of need a Southern skateboard company because we don’t really have one. My friend Jack who owns Continuum Skate Shop in Charleston was like ‘I have screenprinting stuff just sitting in my house’. So I’m turning the garage where we keep all [Band Of Horses'] gear into a dark room and printing studio. We’re taking the t-shirts on the road and hopefully we’ll get enough money to do the first deck.

Where do you want that to go?
I don’t know [...] I’m going to take my time with it. I’m lucky that I have some really good people inside the industry, which is cool. And it just gets radder with meeting people like Ty Evans. I’m just going to keep hounding people for information on how to do it right. I don’t know, I think it’s going to work. But I think it’s going to be a while. The skate scene in Charleston is just blowing up there are kids that are really ripping and there’s no company for them. We’re about to get a really nice $2m skate park supposedly.

Hey, by the way, does anyone know if Creighton’s set up a website for Old Money yet?  I’ve seen him rockin a couple Old Money tees and I’d really like the throw him some love in the form of a purchase.   I imagine there might not be one yet–what with making an album, touring, and such I think it safe to say he’s a pretty busy guy, but if anyone knows otherwise, let me know!

In the meantime, thanks as always for reading.  Hope you’re all having a wonderful day and that you had a wonderful weekend!

Three More Vids From GCT, New Tour Date Announced!

Well, it’s definitely apparent that Band of Horses is really trying to come through for us fans who weren’t lucky enough to be at the Grand Central Terminal show!  They’ve released three more videos from their performance there, and I have to say, they are absolutely gorgeous from a visual standpoint, but also are mindblowingly amazing musical performances!  You will find them below for your viewing pleasure.

Also, in other news, the guys announced a new tour date today!  The newly added show is going to be on September 1, 2010 in Aarhus, Denmark.  I will add it to the “Upcoming BoH Events” page as soon as I have a spare moment (I’m in the middle of a two day, twenty-plus hour grind at my job).

In the meantime, I hope everyone is having such a great Friday out there, and that you all stay happy, healthy, and safe!

Spring 2010 Wrap-Up

I am typically in such a hurry to get news and reviews out to folks that it is somewhat rare I get the chance to write, well, very creatively on this site.  Don’t get me wrong, I’m not griping.  I knew coming into this that there would be more posts that were frantically written than ones I got to sit down and really think about.  But, with the band enjoying a well-deserved break, and news a little slow, I thought now would be the right moment to sit down and offer something a little more “produced” than what you’re probably used to getting from me on this site.

Or maybe I’m just being self-indulgent :)

Either way, I thought it might be fun to take a look back at what I’ll informally dub the “Spring Leg” of BoH’s 2010 tour.  The band originally hit the road way back in March , 100 days ago, to be exact.  But by the time I got the site up and running, they had already played several gigs, including a mini-European tour.

The first gig I was able to cover was their show at The 40 Watt in Athens, Georgia, at which they were described as “a band having a good time.”  Ben sported his Georgia Bulldogs hat, and the band received a stellar review, despite having played in a venue that, it has been said, sometimes gets the best of the performers in it.

Many, many highlights were still to come though.  To name just a few:
The iPad guitar in Memphis (burn, baby, burn)
Jodi Ann and I getting soggy while seeing them in Noblesville
Horses at The Horseshoe (not to mention Horses playing horseshoes)
In-store performances at Newbury Comics and Amoeoba Records
Annabelle, Ben and Eddie Vedder owning “Act Together”
Ben hitting every note of Chris Cornell’s part of “Hunger Strike”
Band of Horses being named one of Sasquatch 2010′s top 10 performances
Monster fireworks
in Bend, Oregon.
Only in New York:  the GCT show and Andrew.

What’s amazing to me though, is that the list above, though lengthy, really is just naming a few of the incredible things that have gone in the exactly two months this site has been around.  I mean, seriously!  Do you remember the listening party?  That was literally just two months ago.

But what has made it the most fun for me is that every time I find a piece of news about Band of Horses, I also find a re-affirmation of all of the reasons I’m a fan.  Through every interview (even through answering the same questions hundreds of times) the band has remained lively, engaged, respectful, and upbeat.  Through every performance they’ve kept their fans happy, despite crisscrossing thousands of miles of planet Earth (and more than half of the time zones on it) to get to their gigs.  And with their new album, Infinite Arms, they’ve proven once again that they are incredible musicians who are making what is, in the humble opinion of this blogger, the best music around.  And, along the way, they’ve made such great memories for themselves and their fans, even if it’s meant asking directions to Bonertown (does this mean they’ll play a gig in Intercourse someday?)

Either way, I am very very happy for them and for us, their fans.  I really hope they are enjoying some very well deserved time off with their loved ones, and I really can’t wait to see what the future holds for them, because I am certain it is filled with nothing but good things.

There are only nineteen days between now and when they start the tour up again in Nashville.  I can’t wait to go because I know, without a doubt, there will be amazing music being played, and wonderful memories being made!

In the meantime I will, as always, be on the lookout for news!  I really hope you are all having a wonderful day out there!

Willimasburg Waterfront Show June 20th 2010

guest post by tfederspiel

That’s right I got to see the boys twice in one weekend!!!!

As I was in the very front for the Grand Central Station show, I hung in the back for the Williamsburg Waterfront show and gave others the opportunity to see the guys up closer.

The day was hot indeed and the crowd was restless and drinking heavily. The guys were much more pumped up and enthusiastic at this show as this was the eve before they could finally go home and see their families before they have to head off again to Europe, Australia and Asia.

The opening act blew me away. I wasn’t expecting to like Karen Elson as much as I did. I’m a huge fan of any steel guitar and fiddle music so this band won me over immediately.

Following Karen Elson was Grizzly Bear which was a great performance as well. But let’s face it, you all know who I came there to see.

The band came on stage all looking well rested and happy to be there. They greeted the crowd and began with “Am I a Good Man”. I was beside myself ecstatic to hear this tune live. I wanted them to play it so bad and here they were opening with it. It was awesome. That’s a good old soul tune and Ben’s voice just makes the tune much more so then the original. With Ryan singing along with him it makes for a great opener and really got the crowd into the show right off the bat.

They went on to play all their usual of course throwing JJ Cale’s “Thirteen Days” in there. Again..stellar.

Now as everyone knows with every out door show comes that fan that just gets unbelievably drunk and starts screaming at the band at inappropriate times and jumping up and down and irritating those around them. Ben took it upon him self to take this guy on and engage in conversation. “What’s your name Dude?” And hence we all met “Andrew”.

Andrew was then incorporated into BoH’s tunes and some new tunes were made up as the show progressed. I quote the lyrics out of Ben’s mouth from “Cigarettes and wedding Bands that night”

“The drunk fucks in the crowd… for crying out loud!!”

The apt building behind the stage even decided to incorporate Andrew into the show with the following:

It was quite the evening!!! Entertainment for all!!! Eventually Andrew got out of hand and was bounced out of the venue. The band sang…”No one’s gonna Love you more than Andrew…” “Someone…should have warned Andrew” And suddenly he was back!. So Andrew was only away from us for a short period of time and was let back in to catch the encore.

The band has been playing on tour and away from home for 72 days and they gave it their all once again to a happy crowd. Everything I wanted to hear was played including “Blue Beard” and since I was in the back this time, I had room to move around and stomp my boots and sing from the top of my lungs without being an “Andrew”.

The treat was hearing them close with the chorus to “Neighbors” . Which I read at one point the band does not play life as it’s a difficult song to sync just right played live. But man they nailed it and I was so happy to hear them play it loud and play it really well!

I hope those boys have an amazing two week break with their families. They deserve every moments peace they get. I know it will be quite some time before I get to see them back in my woods again. But I’ll wait patiently. I know they’ll be back around.

I didn’t bring my camera to this show but I’ve attached a link that got some awesome shots of the show.

Do not miss this band of they come to your town folks. Skip work if you have to. Beg steal or borrow a ticket and get to a show. You won’t regret one single minute of it.

Grand Central Station Show

guest post by TFederspiel

As I’m coming down off that natural high where you see a band you love in every way…I have a moment to share my experience at the Grand Central Station show to all my Band of Horses fans friends here.

Let me start off by saying how fortunate I was to be able to attend the show as it only allowed a sum of about 500 people into the venue. So a big thanks to AOL and Other Records for allowing me this unforgettable opportunity.

We arrived at Grand Central Station at about 5:00pm. As we were walking around the station trying to find the line that supposedly started on 42nd st, I happen to pass some familiar faces just hanging outside. Perhaps taking a cigarette break? Indeed it was Ben Bridwell and the rest of the band except Ryan Monroe just hanging out chatting with one another. I literally had to do a double take. My thought was…”ok this is my chance to say hello and make my presence known to the band as one of their biggest fans”. And so I politely tapped Ben on the shoulder and asked if he would sign my poster. If most of you remember I purchased a gig poster a few months ago of a Portland, Oregan gig that depicted Ben, his dog and a woman in the distance. I brought the sketch of Ben with me “just in case”. Good thing I did.

I started explaining what I had for him to sign and as soon as he saw it he remembered the poster and gladly signed it. As he signed I asked how they were all doing and he said “good good..we just got in from Denmark so we’re a little tired but doing really well”. I then proceeded to tell him about the Odetoboh website. His response was “That’s you? Yeah I know the site” I went on to tell him about Dave and how he found me as a huge BoH fan and that Dave runs the site and that I help contribute. That we have a nice network of other BoH’s fans. I asked if he’s seen the site and he said that he had and that we are doing a wonderful job, that the site is really done well and thanked me for everything and all the kind words and information that we post. I then politely asked for a picture if he didn’t mind and he said “Not at all”. So my dream to meet this wonderful person came true all in about a 10 minute period. The guys then had to start heading inside so he shook my hand, said “very nice meeting you and please tell Dave thanks so much for all that he’s doing”. Embarassed

I was completely on cloud nine. I immediately emailed Dave to tell him the good news. How exciting for all of us that the band knows about the site. Who knows..maybe they check in once in awhile. But everyone here should know, the band appreciates their fans true to heart.

Me and my friend then proceeded to get in line with other people who had VIP passes. The doors opened at 5:30 and in we went. Aol gave away a free BoH t-shirt, a poster, and iphone covers. The evening was going well. When we got inside we proceeded to the very front of the stage. Being the first ones into the building we had our choice of where we wanted to stand and I picked smack dab in front of course.

The show was very intimate. The acoustics and sound in this hall were unbelievable. As I watched the guys come out and get settled into their spots I braced myself for what was to come. Being up so close gave me the opportunity to see what a really tight knit family these boys are. Before and after each song they would look to one another with head nods and praises, pats on the back. They really acknowledge one another and make sure each other knows what the other is doing. It was endearing to say the least to see it all in action. I wish I could capture those looks they gave one another but it’s definitely something one must see for themselves.

They opened with Ode to LRC and it sounded awesome. I swear the more these guys play their own tunes the better they get as this was the third time I had gotten to see them. The night proceeded on with tunes from the first two albums and with them playing all the favorites of course including “The Great Salt Lake”, “The Funeral”, “No one’s Gonna Love You”, and “General Specific”. Then Ben put his guitar down to give Tyler the spotlight and they performed Evening Kitchen together. It was to say the least beautifully done.

Each song I heard was making me even happier than the last one. The band played extremely well. They were calm and collective mostly due to the fact that they must have been exhausted since they just flew across an ocean to get here. But then again, this band could never do wrong in my eyes. Seriously, they could come out and say “Thank you gnite!!!” I’d be like…”whhhoooooooooooo”.

The treat for me was when they played “Monsters”. This song is my motto..”If I am lost it’s only for a little while……” When things get bad…I always utter those words in my head and push through it. The fact that Ben plays steel guitar and keeps his right foot tapping to the beat the WHOLE time is so endearing to me. Seriously..that foot never stops. I bet you’ll all watch for that now whenever you see it.

As Creighton handed Ben the tambourine and Drumstick I knew “General Specific” was next. And so it was. And the crowd screamed back every word.

They closed with “The Funeral” and of course that was nothing but a hit home with the crowd.

As they walked off stage there was no encore despite the crowds pleas for one. There was just no time.I’m sure the band had to book it to Toronto for the next days show. They played for a little more than an hour and they played well.

I will never forget this show for as long as I live. the expressions on their faces during each song. The looks to one another as band mates. My meeting Ben and his kind words. my nervousness, my sweaty palms. At least I remembered to ask “How are you guys doing? I mentioned Odetoboh and I also congratulated Ben on his new expecting baby.

This band is a “must see” in every single way I can possibly think of.

I took about 101 pictures which I will post all together up here soon for you all to see so you can all get up close as I was.

I know I’m not a professional writer for some big blogging magazine or website so my review doesn’t mean too much to the world. But I know for true BoH fans, these words I write mean alot to you.

Set list was……
Ode to LRC
Islands On The Coast
The Great Salt lake

Help BoH Get Into Power Rotation on Aux!

Okay, here’s our chance to really let our Horses flags fly!  Every week, Aux takes two music videos and puts them head to head and the winner airs in power rotation on Aux TV.  It’s a battle between songs, bands, and fans.

This week, it’s Band of Horses’ video for Compliments, up against a formidable opponent indeed:  the video for “Fixed” by Stars.

Please go and vote for Band of Horses here, and in the meantime, enjoy the video I am really hoping comes out on top!
